Agarwood oil
Pure agarwood oil (Oud oil)
Agarwood oil and Oud oil are the same precious oil — distilled from the resinous wood of agarwood trees grown in Tripura, North East India.

Overview
Pure agarwood oil (Oud oil)
Our Oud oil is a precious elixir derived from the resinous wood of agarwood trees. These trees are found in North East India, primarily in Tripura, where skilled artisans extract the fragrant resinous wood chips through a meticulous process. The resinous wood (Oud chips) is then steam-distilled to obtain pure agarwood oil.
It is a rare, treasured, pure and natural essential oil, with no artificial additives — renowned for a deep, earthy aroma intertwined with warm, woody notes.

Botanical and raw material
Resinous agarwood chips
The oil comes from the resinous heartwood of the agarwood tree (Aquilaria malaccensis), grown through agroforestry. The part used is the resinous wood itself, prepared as agarwood chips.
The older the agarwood tree, the better the resinous chips it yields for distillation — and for each extraction, the quality of the wood determines the quality of the final Oud oil.

Extraction and distillation
Steam and hydro-distillation
Oud oil is extracted by steam distillation or hydro-distillation. Controlled, heated steam is passed through the powdered agarwood, carrying with it the oil locked inside the cellular structure of the wood.
Once the steam has cooled, the Oud oil is collected.

Appearance and aroma
Appearance and aromatic character
The oil ranges in colour from yellow to golden orange and dark brown.
Oud is one of the most complex aromas known. It has a highly persistent sweet warmth and a deep, magnificent woody character, with shades of earthy, ambery incense and honeyed tobacco, underscored by animalic notes. In the long dry-down it becomes sweeter, musky and woody.

Agarwood heritage
Indian agarwood
Agarwood thrives in North East India thanks to the region’s favourable climate, and it is a source of livelihood for many people across the region. The species grows predominantly on private land.
Indian agarwood oil is obtained from infected Indian agarwood trees (Aquilaria malaccensis), whose resin gives the oil its distinctive character.
